I went to shopping spree after founding out that a film based on Joe Simpson's classic Touching the Void Darlow Smithson Productions20032003-09-05Touching the Void is a 2003 documentary based on the book of the same name by Joe Simpson about Simpson's and Simon Yates' disastrous and near fatal attempt to climb Siula Grande (6,344m) in the Cordillera Huayhuash in the Peruvian Andes in 1985.Kevin MacdonaldSusie Figgis (Casting); Charles Furneaux (Executive Producer); Robin Gutch (Executive Producer); John Smithson (Producer); Paul Trijbits (Executive Producer)Brendan Mackey (Joe Simpson); Nicholas Aaron (Simon Yates); Richard Hawking (sich); Ollie Ryall (Richard Hawking); Joe Simpson (sich); Simon Yates (sich)Documentary; Adventure; Actionhttp://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/ozExRDtiwDqyIcRfZ7Zi14EPbiX.jpgplugin://plugin.video.youtube/?action=play_video&videoid=gdHliYYs1qItt037955711194 is available on HD DVD as well. Clearly this was too good to pass, no matter that I already owned a copy on DVD.
Although mountain footage would benefit greatly of High Definiton quality, there is very little climbing-related stuff available on HD. That being said, there is BBC's documentary Planet Earth http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0795176/, one episode of which contains beautiful mountain scenery. That being said, Vertical Limit Columbia Pictures Corporation20002000-12-08Trapped near the summit of K2, the world's second-highest mountain, Annie Garrett radios to base camp for help. Brother Peter hears Annie's message and assembles a team to save her and her group before they succumb to K2's unforgiving elements. But, as Annie lays injured in an icy cavern, the rescuers face several terrifying events that could end the rescue attempt -- and their lives.Martin CampbellMartin Campbell (Producer); Robert King (Producer); Mike Medavoy (Executive Producer); Marcia Nasatir (Producer); Lloyd Phillips (Executive Producer); Pam Dixon Mickelson (Casting)Chris O'Donnell (Peter Garrett); Robin Tunney (Annie Garrett); Bill Paxton (Elliot Vaughn); Scott Glenn (Montgomery Wick); Izabella Scorupco (Monique Aubertine); Nicholas Lea (Tom McLaren); Temuera Morrison (Major Rasul); Alexander Siddig (Kareem Nazir); Stuart Wilson (Royce Garrett); Augie Davis (Aziz); Roshan Seth (Colonel Amir Salim); Alejandro Valdes-Rochin (Sergeant Asim); Rod Brown (Ali Hasan); Steve Le Marquand (Cyril Bench); Ben Mendelsohn (Malcolm Bench); Ed Viesturs; Robert Taylor (Skip Taylor)Action; Adventure; Thrillerhttp://assets.fanart.tv/fanart/movies/11678/movieposter/vertical-limit-532fa0546e0d3.jpgplugin://plugin.video.youtube/?action=play_video&videoid=trp5hxov5tctt019086511678 is available in Blu-Ray. In it's unrealism it is either a very funny comedy (however unintended that is) or failed attempt at action/thriller.
